Our approach to Psychotherapy

At Roots Therapy Space, we take a relational-developmental approach to psychotherapy, which means we focus on how your earliest experiences and relationships shape the way you connect with yourself and others. These foundational patterns – known as “enduring relational themes” (Jacobs, 2017) – act as blueprints, influencing what you expect, need, and want from relationships throughout your life. Often, the strategies or ways of relating that were necessary in childhood may no longer serve you in the same way today, yet they remain deeply ingrained.

In our sessions, we explore these patterns together in a compassionate, supportive environment. The therapeutic relationship itself becomes a “container” where these themes can be safely examined, understood, and re-integrated. The process allows you to recognize and release aspects of yourself that may be holding you back from living fully in the present. Drawing on a range of approaches – including self-psychology, object relations, gestalt, and intersubjectivity theory – our work together connects you with your own “roots,” nurturing the growth and integration of different parts of yourself that may have been hidden or unrecognized.
